Mac’s Custom Haus didn’t start in a big shop with fancy tools. It started in my parents’ backyard on summer break from university with a desire, a spray gun, and a lot of determination.

During my last year at Old Dominion University, a mentor told me, “Omari, you should start your own business.” That one sentence planted the seed that lead me here. One Sunday after visiting that mentor, he sold me a 1995 BMW 325i that had been parked in his front yard for many years. I was eager for the project.

Little did I know that same BMW would be the first car I ever painted. Months leading up to the day I painted the car, I decided to dive headfirst in the theory behind painting a vehicle, I researched and learned everything I could about preparing the vehicle for paint, the various primers, clearcoats, paint materials, and how veterans in the industry approached bodywork. Then, with no practical experience, and a hint of nervousness, I went out into the backyard and started sanding down the BMW, the next step was paint.

Years later, here we are preserving automotive history, one paint job at a time.
